Wirral Barn Owl Trust

We collect personal information in order to process donations, process membership applications, communicate with members regarding the Trust’s activities and communicate with volunteers regarding volunteering activities. Committee members personal information is held in order to contact the committee members to arrange meetings. We collect landowners information in order to arrange visits, keep a log of nestbox sites and report required information to the British Trust for Ornithology on handling and ringing of birds as required under our license. Trustee information is collected and shared with the Charity Committee. Our legal bases for processing this information are legitimate interest and legal obligation under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 – Schedule One and the Charities Act 2022, as well as any other laws and regulations governing charities, donations and conservation applicable to the Trust.

We will retain your information for as long as necessary, to fulfil the purpose for which it was collected, or as stipulated by law or regulation. For example, if we collected information to process your membership, we will retain this information for the period of your membership with the Trust. Payment information with Gift Aid is kept for 8 years after your last payment, or without Gift Aid, information will be kept for 2 years after your last payment.

Your information is kept securely with restricted access on a need-to-know basis by key members of the Trust involved in processing donations and registrations. Landowner details, used for nestbox locations, may be shared members of the fieldwork team to carry out visits but are held in strict confidence. We do not share your personal information with third parties outside of the Trust without your permission, except where necessary for crime prevention and detection, or if required to do so by law.
